Heather Lenz won the Roy W. Dean Grant over a decade ago.  Her documentary "Kusama-Infinity" made it to Sundance this year.

"Film takes the longest of any art form to create", Carole Dean once said about the difficulty of completing an indie film "and it's the most expensive".  

Which is why she created the Roy W. Dean Grant.  Now in it's 26th year, the grant has been a lifeline for films in progress to help them get completed.
