Job Posting - MLPP Communications Assistant

The Michigan League for Public Policy is a statewide advocacy organization that works to promote economic security and well-being for all people in Michigan through the policymaking process, using a racial equity lens.
The communications assistant will be expected to support the communications department and other staff in communications-related activities. Responsibilities include: proofreading, editing and formatting policy and communications materials, including reports, fact sheets and press releases; drafting blogs, letters, email blasts and social media posts; assisting with social media management, including offering new ideas and improvements; providing administrative support to programs, including assisting with annual policy forum, updating databases and contact lists, and tracking and reporting media coverage.
Preferred Qualifications and Qualities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field or similar experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including strong grammar, sharp attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to communicate complex issues to broad audiences.
  • Strong social/digital media skills, including experience with organizational social, email and website management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with graphic design, photography or videography a plus.
  • Familiarity with and passion for issues related to children, education, health, poverty reduction, budget and tax policy, reduction of racial/ethnic disparities.
  • Familiarity with Michigan legislative process.
  • Ability to think creatively and to generate new ideas.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, but also with a team.
  • Values and contributes to a culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to racial, ethnic, social and economic justice.
